We are extremely proud to welcome Duncan James as our first Charity Ambassador.
As somebody who has experienced cauda equina syndrome first hand, he understands exactly what the people we support have lived through. The struggles surrounding all the issues, impacts on relationships and working lives are huge and devastating. Amazingly, he is helping us to shine the spotlight on this condition, being such a positive role model for others, clearly demonstrating that success and happiness are within reach for everyone. Duncan speaks candidly and honestly about his experience, and is helping us reach out to others in the community who may think they are alone dealing with cauda equina injuries.
Our new charity is born from The Cauda Equina Syndrome Association which has been supporting patients for ten years, founded by Claire Thornber following her own CES injury. We offer a range of support services including a free Helpline, support group meetings, online support groups and a range of wellbeing therapies.
October 1st 2020 will be the first international Awareness Day for cauda equina syndrome hosted by the new charity and will see the launch of dedicated pod casts and new therapy services. We will be creating short films and dramas that will depict the horror of CES and help raise awareness amongst the public of the Red Flags, especially those living with acute low back pain and sciatica.
As a patient led organisation we are in a unique position to offer much needed support to patients, as people who truly understand the condition and who have life experience and personal advice ready to help manage all the issues.
To finally have an endorsement like this has sent ripples of excitement through our support group.
We are looking forward with excitement to the coming months and years ahead – A massive Thank you to you Duncan from all of us X
